Test Your Beef IQThe University of Arkansas, Cooperative Extension Service is offering an in-depth educational program (Beef IQ) for producers looking to expand their knowledge of beef production and the beef industry. This program will help producers to evaluate their current enterprises and learn techniques and methods that will improve decision-making. Beef IQ is a six-session program offered throughout the year at Russellville, Arkansas. Sessions will address current topics and issues related to breeding and selection (February), reproduction (March), herd health (May), economics (July), forage production (September), and nutrition (October). Each session lasts approximately six hours with lunch and refreshments provided. Registration for the six-session program is $100 per person and $50 for one additional person (e.g., spouse, manager, or business partner). For less than $20 per session, attendees will participate in hands-on activities during each session that can be used to evaluate farm resources and develop a farm management plan. Registration for the program will begin in November 2008. Producers can register by calling 501-671-2177 or by mailing in a registration form (ask your county agent or program sponsor representative) and submitting a check payable to the Agriculture Development Council. Registration deadline is January 9, 2009. For more information, contact your local county Extension office, visit with one of the program sponsors, or call 501-671-2169. This program is conducted in cooperation with Arkansas Tech University and sponsored by the Alltech, Arkansas Beef Council, Farm Bureau of Arkansas, and Farm Credit Services of Western Arkansas.
