[Title Slide - Spray Timing Critical for Pigweed Control, Widener, AR. Your Arkansas Soybean Podcast, University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. Number 38]

[Dr. Ken Smith, Extension Weed Scientist standing in a soybean field talking to a group of people at a field day] In this field, we prepared the ground early on and then applied Valor. And I said well Sid, I think you wasted your Valor because I think you’re out too early, this was in March. We're not gonna plant until out in April and our Valor is going [to] be pretty much gone, I think we’ve wasted it. Well, it turned out we didn’t waste it, ‘cause come April 15th we had pigweeds already germinated in these fields up here where we did not have Valor. [Picture showing small pigweeds] Well, where we did not have the Valor down pre-plant we ended up running a cultivator and going back in and rerunning it again, preparing it and knocking them out. Critical, critical start clean. [Dr. Smith holds his fingers about two inches apart] This big, that’s too big to start with, I mean you’ve got to be clean.

[Narrator] Your Arkansas Soybean Podcast is a production of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and was funded in part by the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. For more information on soybean farming in Arkansas contact your local county Extension Office.
